Skin Care Tips

This coming Sunday is Mother’s Day! It’s a day to celebrate your mom for all the wonderful things she does for you. No matter how old you get, you probably find yourself thinking, “Mom was right!” With age comes wisdom about life and the body, and moms want their daughters to know the vital skincare tips they’ve learned so their daughters can age as gracefully as possible.

If you’re in your 20s or 30s, your skin is probably looking great! It’s hard to imagine wrinkles, sagging and sunspots, but how you care for your skin now makes all the difference later on in life.

Wear sunscreen and moisturize every day! Sunscreen protects your skin from sun spots, skin cancer and severe wrinkles. Even if you’re not in the sun that much, you can get sun exposure while driving in your car or walking briefly outside. You don’t have to be at the beach to need sunscreen. In Florida, the sun is hotter and brighter, which means you’re getting a lot more exposure than you realize.

The older you get, the dryer your skin becomes, contributing to wrinkles. Moisturize your skin at least once a day. It’s best to do it after you’ve washed your face or showered to lock in that excess moisture.

Eat healthy and exercise. Good skin has a lot to do with your diet and exercise regimen. Establish good habits in your 20s and 30s and you’ll notice a difference as you age. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated too! Eating almonds helps slow down inflammation that accelerates fine lines, sagging, and blotchiness. You can also try to incorporate more salmon and tuna in your diet for a similar effect.

Exercising increases blood flow, which nourishes skin cells keeping them vital. It’s also a great way to reduce stress. High stress on a daily basis can spike hormone production and lead to breakouts, so do some cardio three times a week!

Invest in Skin Care. By the time you’re in your 30s, you should be scheduling regular facials and peels to keep your skin clean and exfoliated. You might also want to consider BOTOX injections. BOTOX targets and relaxes the underlying muscles that cause wrinkles before they have a chance to form. It’s the perfect preventative care! All of these procedures should be performed by a professional to avoid damaging your skin.
